Future Jeopardy candidate

Meteroite strikes kid:

One very unlucky German teenager was struck by a meteorite this week, but survived to tell the tale.

As Gerrit Blank walked home from school, the red-hot object fell out of the sky at 30,000 miles per hour, hit his hand, and crashed into the ground, leaving a foot-wide crater.

“At first I just saw a large ball of light, and then I suddenly felt a pain in my hand. Then a split second after that there was an enormous bang like a crash of thunder,” he told  Telegraph.co.uk. “The noise that came after the flash of light was so loud that my ears were ringing for hours afterwards.”

Palm did what they needed to do to preempt WWDC

June 12, 2009

I bet they took huge losses to expedite shipment and make the 6/1 date:

Palm Pre: 100,000 Sold So Far

Palm has shipped 100,000 Pres since the device debuted on June 6. This, according to J.P. Morgan analyst Paul Coster, who estimates that more than 50,000 phones were sold in the first two days it was available and says the company may have sold another 50,000 in the days that followed.

Anything to get it before Apple’s announcement because (1) they knew their message would be drowned and (2) they were not confident if they could beat whatever came out of WWDC.

FT: iLife was designed to rival Paint?

June 12, 2009

Really? WTF:

Designed to rival the bundled soft ware accompanying a Windows-based PC – such as Paint, Picture Manager and Movie Maker – iLife ’09 comes free with a new Mac, including the Mac Book Pro models launched this week.

I am sorry, this is not even close. What a stupid assertion. They could have stated that iLife is supposed to rival Microsoft Office for media but, no, they had to reach.

Comparing iLife to Paint & MovieMaker is like comparing FT to the New York Post or the Sun.

Even if the author has a positive review of  iLife, opening statements like that leave a taint.
