Bizarre Larry Ellison news
May 13, 2009Because Larry doesn’t have enough to do:
Swiss billionaire Ernesto Bertarelli is accusing Oracle CEO Larry Ellison of engaging in international espionage in hopes of winning a boat race.
Lawsutis of the rich and famous. Spying on yachts.

Philadelphia Inquirer
May 13, 2009It is hard to believe that at a time when the paper is losing readership that hiring a discredited person to write an op-ed would boost subscriptions. Are there enough people out there who flock to the Inqy or pay just to read Yoo? I think this is just another case of another newspaper not paying attention to its customers needs and instead being led by the political ideology of its management.

NYT: Apple goes after jailbreakers but not really
May 13, 2009Apple is the most hacker friendly and least litigious company out there (witness the number of hackintosh and iPhone jailbreak sites) as long as there is no commercial motive (Psystar). Apple’s approach seems like a pretty good balance to me:
Apple filed its brief in response to the Electronic Frontier Foundation’s request that the copyright office recognize an exemption to the digital copyright act that would permit jailbreaking of iPhones and other devices.
So far, the company has not gone after any specific developers or Web sites that assist people in jailbreaking their iPhones, said Mr. von Lohmann, but given Apple’s penchant for exerting control over its products, it could.
It could? Has it? What is it waiting for if they want to? There is simply no history to suggest that it would, though.
