Jay-Z, Fity, MC Hammer, and Apple

January 3, 2008

Jim Goldman passes on the rumor from the Boy Genius Report (BTW, Jim, how about crediting the BGR for the rumor?):

This one’s been floating around like a hot air balloon, but we’ve just about confirmed it. For those that don’t know, Jay-Z left Def Jam as President last month, and everyone’s been talking about where he’s heading. While this might be one of his many other venutures, we just heard that Jay-Z is launching a record label with Apple.

While we are on the subject of crazy rumors linking hip hop stars with Apple, whatever happened with Fity’s partnership to develop budget PCs with Apple?

Forbes is reporting that Apple is indeed in talks with G-Unit founder and multiple gunshot survivor 50 Cent about manufacturing a co-branded line of affordable computers targeted at inner-city families.

This one has a better chance then the above: MC Hammer and Apple collaborate on a tennis shoe.

Netflix movies on demand

January 3, 2008

Digital Daily:

Netflix has announced plans to develop a set-top box that will give consumers the ability to stream movies directly from the Internet to HDTVs.

Wonder what happened to this:

TiVo, Netflix sign movies-on-demand deal

I don’t think the LG-Netflix partnership vaporware as much as Digital Daily believes. After all, LG demo’d this in Dec. ‘04:

LG Korea has announced the 42LP1DR 42″ HD compatible TV. The 42″ Xcanvas has an integrated 160GB hard drive for recording your favourite shows. It can report upto 13 hours of HD TV programming and 63 hours of SD class programming. Also included 9 in 1 Memory card reader which reads almost every possible memory card (CF / MD / SD / SMC / MMC / MS / MS Pro / Magic Store / Xd-Picture). It can play MP3 files and also display images directly from the memory card. Pricing and availability information is not known yet.
