McCartney on iTunes

May 25, 2007

PaidContent:

PaidContent.org has learned the apparent delay is down to the preparation of “an exclusive” offering that will come along with the material.
..
Join the dots together and it seems that McCartney’s material, plus something extra, will be the thing that finally fronts the launch of the DRM-free future for EMI and Apple next week

I say its probably a fully loaded U2-like iPod.

Memory prices and Vista

May 25, 2007

I picked up 3GB of notebook memory for less than $100. I wonder if lack of demand for Vista is contributing to the weakness in memory prices. According to TGDaily:

Latest spot quotes of 512 Mbit DDR2-533 and DDR2-667 were $1.82 and $1.80 on May 16 where quotes for the same-density effectively tested (eTT) chips were $1.35, according to figures posted by DRAMeXchange.

And according to Digitimes:

Leading memory testing and packaging house Powertech Technology (PTI) had mentioned that PC OEMs are only expected to resume their consumption again during June and July

Thanks, Microsoft, for letting me add memory to my MB and MacMini.

Redmond, Restart your copiers (were they really off?)

May 25, 2007

Remember how the Leopard delay spawned this. What goes around comes around. Mary Jo Foley reports:

Microsoft announced late on Thursday May 24 that it has cancelled the Professional Developers Conference (PDC) that was slated for this October.

Given the fact that Microsoft is constantly battling OS X comparisons (and losing), is it a surprise that they want to wait till the fall to copy be inspired by Leopard.

Microsoft said it had decided to “reschedule” the event to some unspecified future date.

Translation: After WWDC we’ll get a better idea of what to implement. We’ll get back to you once we evaluate how long it’ll take.
