Apple TV’s HD future

April 11, 2007

TUAW on MGM announcement:

The movies will be distributed in the current “Near-DVD” resolution of 640×480, a fact which makes Apple TV owners cry. And ask why. Because if Apple were going to start offering High Def movies any time soon, why wouldn’t they have MGM in on that announcement and make it an even bigger to do?

Wait a year or so for Jobs letter on how HD formats are held back by studios because of piracy fears. That’ll soon be followed by an annoucement that HD movies are available for purchase and any movies in the library can be upgraded for an extra $2.99.
