But what about the iPhone

January 15, 2007

Times UK has published an article titled “Does the iPhone sow seeds of Apple downfall?“. It is interesting to note that nowhere in the article does the author actually address the reasons the iPhone will contribute to Apple’s downfall, even though, evidently, it’s coming.

Must be the Scoble effect.

iPhone extremes

January 15, 2007

So there are some who are shouting loudly that the iPhone doesn’t do enough (no GPS, no 3G, 7MP camera yada yada yada) and then there are others who joke that the iPhone does too much? Maybe the truth is that it does just enough for most?

Dueling banjos

Hiawatha Bray presents both sides:

Says one analyst:

”Microsoft has this very strong position in personal computing,” said Reinhold, “but it’s very vulnerable.”

Countered by another:

“Vista is really going to give Mac a run for its money once it gets going,” said Roger Kay, president of Endpoint Technologies Associates in Wayland. “It’s a much better operating environment than XP was.”

Could it that they are both right? Sure.

Bray concludes:

So the goal for Apple is to provide Windows-compatible interfaces with its electronic gadgets, while ensuring that the devices still work better with Macs running OS X.

Sorta like what Microsoft did during the early years.
