Busted!

January 7, 2007

Stuff no one would have cared before the Internets & blogs. From Pogue:

“My wife is a musician and after her jaw dropped when she saw it the first time, she noticed that the balls don’t appear to be hitting the keyboard in the right places. Not to take away anything from his remarkable juggling skills, but we can’t help but wonder if the keyboard is preprogrammed.

“As a technologist and a musician, I thought you would be the perfect person to ask.”

My response, as a former Broadway musician, a technologist and a magician: Yes, it’s a hoax

Sling CEO doesn’t understand the term “rumors”

January 7, 2007

Found in a Reuters article about SlingCatcher:

Krikorian: The road is littered with dead bodies in this area. One of the reasons is that these products are giving consumers a subset of the Internet video experience they’re looking for. For example, the thing really compelling with media on the Internet is its totality, its diversity. Stuff I find really exciting? Maybe I want to go to YouTube, or ESPN Motion.

Most of these products, and even the rumored device from Apple, are not giving the Internet video experience in an uncompromised fashion. Maybe it will connect to the iTunes service, or a couple of different Web sites that have been reformatted for the TV, or certain videos in formats and not others. That’s one major reason why they fail.

Hmmm. Apple’s product code-named iTV was announced last year. It is not a rumor. There have been rumors about something called an “iPhone” though.
