Top 10 reasons/places not to use an iPod
October 26, 2006There has been recent rash of iPod events/incident that the press has been very kind to warn us about. Here are my recommendations of places and situations where people should avoid using their iPods (or look for alternatives).
1. Airline toilets. Maybe a Zune would be a better alternative since its bigger than the nano and the brown color will hide any, err, hmm, stains.
2. Mowing the lawn during a thunderstorm. I recommend a boom box at the edge of the lawn cranking out Toby Keith.
3. If you want to climb Mount Everest while listening to Van Halen. You should carry a Zune so you can share three songs for three days after you make summit, dude.
4. If you are in high school and your bff doesn’t have an iPod.
5. If you have over 90,000 songs. Just carry your RAID on your back with its own power pack and headphone setup. Sweet.
6. If you are concerned about autism. Only the soothing sounds of Celine Dion can help us.
7. If you are concerned about DRM (even though you have never have purchased a tune from iTunes Store).
8. Because it doesn’t have built-in wifi, bluetooth, voip, fm receiver, or even a voice recorder. Sheesh. Really – what use is this device?
9. If you are travelling to the UK and you have a tan or you have had a little too much medicinal marijuana and start driving around or you are afraid of getting mugged. Umm, I think its safe to say that when travelling to the UK, a Rio player would be best. No one would recognize it or want it.
10. If you are Steve Ballmer. I pity his kids. Hopefully that trust fund can kick in soon so they can hook up their disguised iPods to their disguised Macbooks.
I wonder what kind of range you’d get if you climbed Mount Everest with a Zune. You could share music with people in Thailand!
What is a Zune?
I am not sure either the ipod or the zune would work at that elevation.
And don’t bother using the In-Ear iPod Headphones anywhere. They may not stick in your ear and stay. Very frustrating!
How big are your ears? LOL! I wear mine all the time and NEVER had them fall out.:)
I have to agree with Rajan – its painful to wear my iPod headphones. Of course, if the headphones keep falling out or its too painful to keep them in we won’t have to worry about hearing loss.
Well, if you are dumb enough that you do not know better than to play it at full volume, then you probably should not have a Ipod or a Zune.
Not every ear is the same size and that is why there are 3rd party headphones on the market in the 1st place.
iPOD and Zune both suck. Be CREATIVE, go CREATIVE
I still don’t know what a Zune is? Can someone please tell me?
Zune is a new iPOD like player (a digital music player) from Microsoft – that answers your question – MYSTARBUCKS
lol thats’s really cool. oh mystarbucks…I have a post on my blog which goes over the Zune and its features on my blog.
lol you definately wouldn’t wanna use an ipod during a thunderstorm. I think i heard of a guy who got electrocuted with an iPod once.
What would be safer…using an ipod on a plane? or in a thunderstorm? lol
I read your blog about the Zune it was very informative. Thanks so much!
I love ipods
Wow. Never thought about that. If I was Steve Ballmer’s kid…What was I thinking?
yay, this is truth!
I’ve got a good reason why you shouldn’t even buy an iPod: you’ll have a very hard time getting it repaired by Apple if something goes wrong with it.
I’ve got an old 30Gb iPod; the battery ran out about a year ago. Ever since, I’ve tried unsuccessfully to make an appointment at the Apple store in London to have the battery replaced. Eventually, I gave up.
I was considering buying a Mac for my next computer, but, because of the Apple customer care (or lack thereof) I’ve vowed never to buy another Apple product again.
I hate ipods!
Justin, you mis-spelled ‘fare’ in your first paragraph.
Neurophil – for a smart guy, your decision about Apple products is pretty sad. Especially so when there are more and better choices than going to an Apple store for replacement batteries.
Or just drop into a PopExpress store – http://www.popxpress.com/
Why use an iPod in the first place when u have all the same features available in a mobile Phone these days….
This is easy to carry and having good capacity of carrying.
LOL – numbers 5 and 8 are funny as hell!!!
Man, I really need to get off my behind and get myself a decent MP3 player…not ones that cost me $30 at Walmart. Yeah, I suck.
i’ve never had an ipod but creative is great enough for me!
they give u brand new exchanges in singapore everytime there’s anything slightly wrong with urs!
Some day Ballmer’s kids are going to be teenagers, and he’s going to catch them, out behind the stables, looking at google and listening to ipod. And they’re going to say “You know what daddy? I googled something, and I hit “I’m Feeling Lucky”… and daddy, it was goooood!”
why not iPod, coz d design is awesome!!
iPod more versatile than M$ Zune. Apple deseves the design credits
The neurophilosopher.
That is odd because I have had several problems with apple computers or ipods and have always gotten them fixed just by going to the genius bar once. I’m sorry you have a lack of customer service but that is the only time I’ve heard someone complain that there is a lack of customer service, They have always fixed my problems

Hmmmyeah … Ipods have become another ina growing set of things causing accidents on roads. Moving with these can become genuinely dangerous, especially on busy roads. Not to mention that some of the higher models attract all sorts of criminals.
Speaking of which, this is one cool tool I found … enables you to check out how the crime rates in your city compare against another of your choice and the national average.

If you’re not funny, you shouldn’t make Top 10 lists.
Was that 2nd top 10 list supposed to be funny?!
